Romance

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a design team page for Shimmerz!  It's almost Valentine's Day, so I thought I'd do a page about romance. Walking on the beach at sunset, or any time of the day is one of my favorite things to do, although I have to talk my husband into going with me,lol!

To make this page I used a piece of Blue Fern paper, and sponged gesso on a four inch tall area across the center. I stenciled on a lot of texture paste, using a Prima bubble stencil and a credit card. I mounted the photo onto a piece of cardstock with glue, then with foam tape onto a piece of watercolor paper. I used foam tape to stick two layers of foam core board onto the watercolor paper and also to the bottom paper.
To add visual interest I added a number of things:pearls, rhinestones, a few Swarovski crystals, tan butterflies from Pion papers,49 and Market flowers, shells, pressed flowers, tiny pieces of lace, and tulle. The fibers are pieces of gauze.
On top of all the bubbles from the stencil I dropped on distress crackle. I wound up covering the bubbles on the far right and left sides of the page with gesso, because things got too busy looking.
I also added distress glitter, metal glitter,Tim Holtz rub ons and a rhinestone brad.

I took Dusty Attic chipboard, applied gesso, Shimmerz Inklingz, and Distress Crackle. The leaves were painted with Blue Lagoon and while it was wet, I dropped in a brushful of Hot Stuff. The stems are done with Emerald City. I edged the pieces with I love you onyxly, using a detail brush. The cracks soaked up the color very nicely. The BoBunny butterflies are painted with gesso, Gold n Roses Blingz, and Distress Crackle. They are also edged with the onyx. I painted the top of the page with Gold n Roses.

.The little clock face is painted with Dear John and title is painted with Blue Lagoon and Teal the end of Time Shimmerz. I edged the title with I love you onyxly.

Here you can see seed beads, micro beads, and some Prima stamping. I used a Versafine Onyx Ink pad, and Tsukineko Sea Breeze chalk ink pad. At the top and bottom of the photo,on the paper, I painted on Gold n Roses Shimmerz. I added some lines of Derwent Bark Inktense Ink pencil at the top and bottom of the page to pick up the black of the photo.  I spread some glossy accents on under the photo and sprinkled on Stampendous Jeweled Gold Embossing Powder. On the sides of the photo underneath the chipboard and around the Romance I used I love you onyxly. On the watercolor paper under the photo I painted with Teal the end of Time Shimmerz, and Dear John Letter. The metal flowers are bead caps by Vintaj.

The peachy color on the bubbles on the sides are Dear John Letter Inklingz. I used Sculpy Clay and a Sculpy mold to make the little faces. I painted them with gesso, then put on a little Hot Stuff Inklingz.I added some onyx to make hair on the right sided one, to balance the black in the photo. The page was looking too pale so I put on some layers of Teal the end of Time. I sponged on some Tidy Widy Texturez dimensional paste onto the bottom of the page, and put gesso on top of that.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great day! I hope I have inspired you to try some Shimmerz Paints, and remember, if you use my name in the comments section when you order, you'll get some free paint!

A Valentine's Day Page

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a design team page for Shimmerz!  Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I've tried to express that with some beautiful colors from Shimmerz!

To make this page, I picked out colors I thought would look good with the mood and colors of the photo. I wanted to keep the very delicate and wispy kind of look. I chose Pink Shimmerz and Imperial Amethyst Inklingz. These are two colors that I especially love anyway, so it was a good day for me!  I activated the Inklingz by spritzing water on it. I misted a 12 x 12 sheet of watercolor paper and put vertical stripes of paint on, the length of the whole page. I moved it around to let the colors flow into each other and carefully dried it with a heat gun. Later I came back and with a brush put more water on above the photo, and applied 1" long strips of color on,and let the color just sit without moving it around. I filled my brush with Amethyst and dropped some in the Pink while it was still wet, then let everything air dry. I clean my scraproom sometimes,it gets tossed when I'm looking for stuff to put on the page.

I stenciled texture paste on with a stencil and a credit card. I painted around the raised areas with Pink Shimmerz, and while wet sprinkled on UTEE, Ultra Thick Embossing Powder, to add even more texture. I used a heat gun and melted the powder. Be careful when you do that because the powder gets all over everything, and its kind of sticky and gross.I propped up a piece of paper at 90degrees by the paint with my left hand, and had the heat gun in the other so the powder stayed in the area.

I attached cardstock to the photo with double sided foam tape, and mounted it on two layers of foam core board to the page. I painted Dusty Attic chipboard with gesso, then Greener Pastures Inklingz, and topped it with Crackle paint. I didn't like the way the green looked with the purple and pink, so I added Imperial Amethyst. I rubbed on a little silver mica powder. The Bo Bunny butterfly has just gesso with the Amethyst and Pink on.

To add visual interest I glued on the following with glossy accents, distress glitter, metal glitter, clear mica flakes, seed beads, micro beads, pearls, rhinestones, two Swarovski crystals, lace, sequins, pressed flowers from my yard (see below),a metal snowflake from Finnabair and a metal Tim Holtz word label, and flowers from Prima and my LSS.  The silver lace is from Tresors de Luxe, the metal pin holding the silk ribbon is from 7 Gypsies. The word stickers in black are Tim Holtz, the moon and stars one is 7 Dots. I fussy cut tiny pink and lavender flowers from Lemoncraft's Violet Silence, and some of their butterflies too. The birds and moth are foil accent overlays from 13 Arts. The moth stamps are Prima. I think the little cherub at the top is from Reminsce.

Wild Edible Plants: Wood Sorrel (Oxalis Acetosella) | Wood Sorrel (Oxalis Acetosella) is an amazing wild edible, that has leaves and flowers that are best eaten raw. Commonly called sour grass, and often confused with “yellow clover”, Wood Sorrel is a sour treat that will quench your thirst, while you enjoy it as a trail side nibble.

This flower pic is from Google.

I painted around the photo with Amethyst, underneath the chipboard. You can see a touch of blue to the left of the photo, Blue Lagoon Inklingz. The splatters are Amethyst.

The black and white fussy cut leaves are 13 Arts. The small feathers are from my yard. The local birds leave them in the birdbath.

I painted the raised areas of the 13 Arts stencil of dandelions and script with Amethyst. I use a detail brush, it's pretty small.

The metal heart at the top of the photo is from 7 Gypsies. I dyed a piece of gauze with Pink but only used a couple strands of the page.

You can see some broken jewelry I added at the bottom of the pic.
I hope I have inspired you to try some Shimmerz paints.  I have always loved the ethereal look of watercolors, and the shades of these are just yummy.  Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Moon Beams and Heart Strings

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a page for the February Mood Board at Mixed Media Warriors.I was inspired by the heart shaped wreath of flowers, which can be a symbol for romance.

To make this page I used Cold Day paper from the "Until Dawn" collection at 13 Arts. I applied gesso with a cosmetic sponge, then used the Dandelion stencil from 13 Arts and put on texture paste with a credit card. I painted over the raised area with a combination of Shimmerz Inklingz paints that matched the peach tones in the image: A Rose by Any Other Name, Dear John Letter, and Ginger Snapped. I painted the watercolor paper under the image with the same combination of colors, but later put more paint on.Underneath the paper and image are two layers of foam core board, to add dimension.

The clockface chipboard is from my stash, and the leafy ones are Dusty Attic. I painted the leaves and branches with Greener Pastures Inklingz, then while still wet dropped in blobs of Shimmerz Celery with a paintbrush. I loved the way it looked, but I still wanted Clear Rock Candy Crackle paint on top. I added gold mica powder, Fairy Wings Sparks Art Alchemy paint, and Sparks Iris Potion. To add visual interest I added a number of things: microbeads, rhinestones, sequins, distress glitter, a few Swarovski crystals, Prima - Finnabair Mechanical Trinkets, metal glitter in purple, silver, and  steel blue, pearls, Frosted mica flakes from Finnabair, and gold ones from Stampendous.

You can see some green gauze around the image I dyed with a distress ink stamper, and cherubs fussy cut from Graphic 45 paper. The butterflies are from Lemoncraft's Violet Silence collection. The flowers are Prima,Petaloo, the tiny pink ones by the cherubs are Jolees, and the two tiny roses are Kaisercraft.

I glued on pieces of white silk ribbon from my LSS that I dyed with Tim Holtz distress ink and Shimmerz celery paint.
The moth at the bottom of the image is cut from transparent foil, what to me is an acetate overlay, "A Letter to you", Until Dawn, by 13 Arts.  The moon beams and heart strings sticker is from 7 Dots Fortune Teller. The tiny twisted metal is from the top of a champagne bottle, the metal that you take off before you take the cork out.

The butterfly to the left of the image is also by 13 Arts, it's cut from A4 Stickers, Until Dawn.
You an see I added dried flowers from my yard, feathers the birds leave in the bird bath, dried moss from Michael's, and lichen from my yard.

I added distress glitter, purple metal glitter, micro beads, and Sparks paint in Iris and Fairy Wings to the paper under the image. The green paint is Fairy Wings at the left of the image.

I painted on some Sparks Magical Pond in the above picture kind of randomly.

I added tiny pieces of gold metallic lace, black tulle, seed beads, and fresh lavender. The big pink gem is from Jolees. The little metal heart I think is from 7 Gypsies.
Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!I hope you find some time to enter this month's contest!

Snow Queen

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a design team inspiration page for Mixed Media Warriors, a page where I can do what I want.

To make this I used mainly Shimmerz Paints on watercolor paper.
This is dedicated to my father in law, Einar Larson, who passed away four years ago.
To the left of the photo I stamped a martini image, Einar used to enjoy one, along with some buttered saltine crackers in the evening.
I was inspired by photos of the Northern Lights, and of course the colors of the photo of the Snow Queen.

Northern lights, a rainbow of color, the Cree Indians call them "dance of the spirit"

I misted water on the page, and quickly painted on stripes of colors of Shimmerz.I worked on one quadrant at a time.At the top of the page I painted stripes with Tattered Angels White Paint, and also just stripes of water.

The chipboard at the bottom and right of the photo is from Dusty Attic, I painted it with Imperial Amethyst Inklingz by Shimmerz, and topped it with Clear Rock Candy Crackle paint. The pink flower is by Prima. The moth is from an acetate overlay,"A Letter to you", from the Until Dawn collection. The metal pieces at the bottom and top left of the photo fre Prima - Finnabair - Mechanicals - Steampunk Gears and Winter Trinkets.

I stenciled on some texture paste with a bubble stencil from Prima. I added some SPLASH acrylic Ink! Glitter Turquoise, from 13 Arts. To add visual interest I put on some pink glitter glue, broken jewelry, a few metal snowflakes, sequins, two tags from 7 Dots, a Swarovski crystal, dried flowers from my yard, and a wooden reindeer I covered in hologram glitter.

Einar liked moose, so I stamped one on top of the blingy area.

The pink butterflies are from the Lemoncraft Violet Silence collection. The metal snowflake at the left of the photo is from Finnabair.

Here you can see some more pink and diamond small crystals.

I am entering this into this month's More Than Word's Challenge.

I'm dedicating this page to my father in law, Einar Larson, who celebrated his BIRTHDAY every December. His house was decorated for Christmas with lots of Swedish decorations on the tree, and all around the house. His parents were from there and he visited there several times. My husband and son went with him and my mother in law once. He has family near Stockholm, originally Ronneby.  I thought he would like this photo done by Linda Hallberg, a famous Swedish photographer. There are two TAGS at the top left of the photo.

I am also entering this into the January Dusty Attic Challenge. I have used Dusty Attic Chipboard on the right and bottom of the photo.

Travel Far and Wide

Hi everyone, Melissa here with a DT page for Shimmerz. Here's a link to the store,Shimmerz, you'll get a freebie if you mention my name when you place an order! These paints are a joy to work with, the quality is amazing!

]

To make this page I sprayed a 12 x 12 piece of watercolor paper with water. Working from left to right I painted on A Rose by Any Other Name,Celery Shimmerz, and Oakie Bear Blue. I misted more water on the paper when if it got too dry and continued adding colors.I dried it all with a heat gun, and then penciled in lines to carry out the green and brown of the photo onto the page.I painted on stripes of Greener Pastures, and Penny 4 Your Thoughts, and blended all the edges in with water on a brush.  I stenciled on Texturez Gold Mine with a bubble stencil.
I dabbed white gesso on the chipboard with a cosmetic sponge, then painted it with Greener Pastures, and while wet dropped in brushfuls of Celery Shimmerz. I dried it, then brushed all around the edges with Mochachino.I coated it with a thick layer of Clear Rock Candy Crackle, and when dry dabbed on Plum Crazy,Penny 4 Your Thoughts and Celery Green Shimmerz I put the photo on the page with two layers of foam core board to give it dimension.

I added more colors around the page, after each one I would dry it with a heat gun.

I painted each raised bubble with crackle, then circled Mochachino around them to accentute the crackle. To add visual interest I added glass glitter, glitter, pearls, lace, gauze dyed with Greener Pastures, seed beads, micro beads, tulle, flowers, Swarovski crystals, white silk ribbon dyed with Plum Crazy and Imperial Amethyst, rub ons, wire, dried flowers, and stickers.

I added more Celery Shimmers,Dear John Letter, and Plum Crazy to the left side of the page, dabbing them on with a small brush. At the end of making this, I wanted to take off some color to create negative space and balance, because the page was looking as if it had too much stuff on it.I dabbed on water with a brush, let it sit for two seconds, then blotted off the color with a paper towel.
Thank you so much for looking, and have a great day! I hope you find the time to create something!

Woman With Flowers

Hi everyone, Melissa here with my first design team post for Shimmerz!
Here's a link to the store,  Shimmerz   . If you place an order be sure to mention my name for a freebie with your order!
I found these paints to be terrific to work with, they are a high quality product with richly colored pigments.
When you activate the Inklingz by spritzing them with water, the result is a nice, creamy, shimmery paint.

To make this page I sprayed a piece of 12 x 12 watercolor paper with water. I had activated the inklingz with water, and with a brush I quickly applied Plum Crazy in about five thin vertical stripes. I sprayed more water on to soften the edges, and let the color run all over the page. I brushed it around with a soft one inch brush, to even most of it out.
The photo is mounted on watercolor paper, I painted that too. I brushed on Plum Crazy, Rose By Any Other Name,Honeymoon, and Dear John Letter. I didn't let the colors dry in between.
I topped off the left side with Penny 4 Your Thoughts. I bushed on Green Olive Shimmerz around the edges. The Shimmerz are amazing, richly colored, premixed and ready to go.
I stenciled on some Tidy Widy,a textural, shimmering, dimensional paste, on the left and right of the page. I used a stencil that had little circles.

I treated the chipboard with Tidy Widy, then layers of  Inklingz in different colors, most of what shows is Plum Crazy and Celery Shimmerz. I added some micro beads in between the layers.
To make the white areas on the page, I brushed on water and blotted it off the with a paper towel. I did this to help balance the page, and stop it from looking too busy.

I brushed on more colors on different areas, I softened the edges with a small brush and water, and let the area dry. The green is Greener Pastures, inside the circle of chipboard to the left of the photo. At the top of the page is a horizontal strip of Honeymoon. I dry brushed Celery Shimmerz on areas of the gauze, dry brushing is when you just put a little on the brush, and apply it lightly.

To add visual interest I added a number of different things: micro beads, dried flowers, metal, chipboard, gauze, paper flowers, bling, lace, shells, dried moss, lichen, feathers, wire, silk ribbon,Swarovski crystals, distress glitter, glass glitter, tulle, and pearls.

I painted the edges of the chipboard with I Love You Onyxly.
I painted the butterfly chipboard and metal pieces with Greener Pastures and Penny 4 Your Thoughts.
I dyed the gauze with Plum Crazy, and the small pieces of silk ribbon with Greener Pastures.

The dried flowers, lichen, and a few tiny feathers are from my yard. The birds leave the feathers in the bird bath when they use it. There's only three on the page, they're hard to spot.

I like the nice edges the areas of paint make when they dry.

Thanks for looking, and have a great week. I hope you find time to play with these wonderful paints!

Dreamer of Dreams

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a new design team page for the NEW JANUARY MOODBOARD 2018 CHALLENGE - COZY & WINTER    at the Mixed Media Warriors Challenge Blog.

I was inspired by the gorgeous winter wood theme.

To make this page I used Blue Fern paper,Splendor, from the Seaside Cottage collection. I sponged gesso across the center, and applied texture paste using a Prima stencil and a credit card. Under the photo is corrugated cardboard that I'd ripped the top layer off. I painted on gesso, then Finnabair's Platinum crackle texture paste. The blue is Tattered Angels Blue Rasberry mist, Lindy's Stamp Gang (LSG)in Tibetan Poppy Teal, and Finnabair's Art Alchemy Blue Pond. I put a little glossy accent glue on and sprinkled Ultra Thick Embossing powder(UTEE) on top. The gold is Finnabair's Art Alchemy Steampunk Copper.I squeezed on Crackle Accent in different areas, then sponged on more gesso. I painted the edges of the cardboard with black gesso and water.

I glued on dyed gauze and put the cardboard and photo on top. At the top of the photo is a Finnabair butterfly that I painted with LSG teal, crackle accent, black gesso, and UTEE. To the right of the photo is a Finnabair metal snowflake.

At areas in the upper right and lower left of the page I painted on embossing medium, and sprinkled on UTEE. I melted it with a heat tool for an icy look. It's hard to see because a lot got covered by gesso later.

Above the 7 Dots title sticker is a Finnabair metal element on top of a Vintaj medallion.

The white powder is embossing powder that I glued on, I spread glossy accents on and poured the powder on top.

I put clear crackle accent by Ranger on top of each bit of texture paste after I'd painted them with steampunk copper. To add more visual interest to the page I added dried moss, star sequins, star confetti, pearls, blue Swarovski crystals, metal charms, metal glitter, black tulle, tiny white lace flowers, Finnabairs clear mica flakes, gold mica flakes, gold mica powder, and microbeads.  There are some tiny white snowflake rub ons from Tim Holtz. I also used a die cut as a stencil and put on some tiny white stars with Platinum Crackle. During the whole process of making the page, and after, I sponged on white gesso to try and keep a balance of elements, so it didn't get too busy looking. I used white watercolor and also painted white gesso in the textured areas.  I rubbed on silver mica powder on many areas to soften the mat look of the white gesso.

The chipboard is from Dusty Attic, purchased from Scrapbook Diaries. I painted it with gesso, and coated it with a layer of Ranger Crackle Accent. It dries pretty rapidly, and after it had, I took an Inktense ink pencil in Bark color and ran it around the edges. The crackles took up the dark color, an unexpected but nice result. I added a little of the LSG teal on top, followed by Steampunk Copper.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!
